UMF Craiova Library

Established in 1970 as the library of the Faculty of Medicine, it functioned as a faculty library, a branch of the Central Library of the University of Craiova until 1998, when it became a university library with the establishment of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova (9 June 1998).

In its evolution from a traditional library to a modern library, from a faculty library to a university library, the Library of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova has diversified its collections becoming a multidisciplinary structure, the biomedical and pharmaceutical fields being predominant. 

 

The mission of the library is to acquire, organize and provide access to a wide variety of information, materials and services that meet the intellectual needs of all categories of users.  

Since December 2010, the U.M.F. Craiova Library has been operating in a new, modern space, being in full process of computerization, diversification of its services in accordance with the complex requirements of information, study and research.

 

It currently holds a collection of 70,000 volumes, books and periodicals, and the library's active collection can be consulted by browsing the online catalogue.

Through the library's computerised management system, the Liberty 5 integrated software, all the library's specific activities (acquisition, cataloguing, user registration, issuing of library cards, lending) are carried out electronically.

 

Structured on three levels, the U.M.F. Craiova Library provides its users with reading rooms with direct access to publications, long-term loan sections, a reference room, a room for consulting the electronic catalogue (OPAC), a computer network comprising 45 workstations for Internet access as well as modern spaces for storing the collection of publications ensuring an appropriate microclimate.
