Opening of the academic year 2024-2025

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova is pleased to invite first year students to attend the opening ceremony of the new academic year 2024-2025. The event will take place on Tuesday, October 1, 2024, starting at 09:00, in Aula Magna, B building, located on May 1st Boulevard.This ceremony marks the beginning of a new academic stage for future specialists in medicine, dentistry, pharmacy, nursing, radiology, balneofiziokinetotherapy, nutrition and cosmetics. With excitement and enthusiasm, UMF Craiova is waiting for new students to join this academic journey.

Craiova hosts the 13th edition of the Congress of School and University Medicine

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF) of Craiova and the Society of Doctors of Children and Youth Collectivities are pleased to announce the organization of the 13th edition of the Congress of School and University Medicine. The event will take place during the period September 2-4, 2024, in the Aula Magna of UMF Craiova. The official opening of the Congress will take place on September 2, 2024, at 13:00 in the Aula Magna (Bdv. 1 Mai, No. 66). The event will be attended by doctors who work in school and student medical practices across the country, representatives of major university medical centers, UNICEF officials, as well as representatives of public health directorates and school inspectorates. During the three-day congress, topical medical challenges will be discussed and novel therapeutic approaches will be presented, providing a platform for knowledge exchange between professionals in the field. The Society of Doctors in Children and Youth Collectivities, founded in 2000 in Cluj-Napoca, is a non-profit professional organization, dedicated to supporting doctors working in school and student medical practices. The organization is active in several counties in the country, with the aim of expanding the network by establishing new branches. UMF Craiova reconfirms its program of supporting academic events that promote collaboration between physicians, specialists and researchers in the medical sciences, thus contributing to the dissemination of high quality medical information.

UMF Craiova invests in young researchers' projects

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova held its internal grant competition for young researchers from June 20, 2024 to July 24, 2024. 38 projects were submitted, of which 15 were declared winners. The total budget amounted to 750,000 RON, coming from research funds received from the Ministry of Education under the institutional contract. The winning projects will be implemented until November 15, 2024, and aim to explore a variety of key themes focused on improving the diagnosis and treatment of various conditions. From developing innovative polymer-based nanotechnologies for hybrid biomaterials to using satellite data to monitor exposure to air pollutants during pregnancy, the studies address topics of high public health relevance. The prediction of diabetes mellitus by biomarkers in patients with psoriatic arthritis and psoriasis, the integration of biological and behavioral methods in the evaluation of oncological treatments, and the role of immunohistochemical markers in the detection of tumor invasion are just some of the research directions that reflect the concern for research and medical excellence. Also, the discovery of new markers for predicting mortality in tuberculosis and malnutrition by machine learning and the in vivo testing of Portulaca oleracea extracts with effects on liver and brain function highlight the potential of interdisciplinary collaborations. Whether it is assessing oxidative stress in liver cirrhosis or studying genetic polymorphisms in multiple sclerosis, this research supports innovation and technological advancement in the medical field and can help improve personalized medicine and prognosis for patients across the country. The projects were evaluated by experts from the BrainMap community. Each evaluator declared in writing their impartiality, confidentiality and competence in the specific field of the evaluated project proposal. The evaluations were anonymous, thus ensuring the confidentiality and impartiality of the process. The aim of the competition is to support young researchers, doctors of science, employed with an open-ended employment contract at the University of Medicine and Pharmacy (UMF) of Craiova, who wish to develop a professional career in scientific research within the institution.

UMF Craiova modernizes its university infrastructure with a 52.8 million lei project financed by PNRR

On Thursday, July 18, 2024, at the Ministry of Education, the delegation of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova (UMF Craiova) signed the contract for the project "Development of the infrastructure of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova for the construction of recreational spaces for students and administrative spaces", financed by the National Resilience and Recovery Plan ("PNRR"). The project has a total budget of 52.882.037,36 lei. Of this amount, 35.250.891,12 lei represents the eligible amount of the PNRR, 6.565.920,83 lei, eligible VAT, and 11.065.225,41 lei UMF Craiova's own contribution. The new building will have a height of B+GF+3+technical floor and will be multifunctional, adapted to all the objectives of the project. It will provide new spaces for student activities, sports, communication, interaction and personal development, while ensuring access to the university infrastructure for people with disabilities and disadvantaged social groups. In addition, administrative spaces will be included, freeing up student accommodation currently occupied by administrative staff. UMF Craiova is dedicated to excellence and innovation in medical education, and this project reflects the university's commitment to provide its students with a modern and accessible infrastructure, thus supporting the personal and professional development of future medical specialists.

Mobile Dental Unit, Dr. UMFCV

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova awarded Ms. Deborah Channells Senior Manager Ford Philanthropy (the philanthropic side of Ford Motor Company), the Diploma of Recognition and Appreciation for the support provided in the construction of the Dr. UMFCV mobile dental unit. The project is implemented by UMF Craiova with the support of the Ford Motor Company Foundation, Global Giving and Rotary Probitas. With the mobile dental unit, multidisciplinary teams of specialists from UMF Craiova (doctors, residents, students) go to vulnerable communities, especially in rural areas, and provide free oral health consultations and care to people who would otherwise not have access. So far, UMF Craiova teams have already reached several villages in Dolj County, where they have provided consultations, smiles on faces and, above all, correct information and hope. Photo gallery

UMF Craiova Days, 2024

The University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova is organising on 5-7 June the UMF Craiova Days. The series of events starts Wednesday 5 June, from 10.00 in the Aula Magna, when first-year students, Faculty of Medicine, organize Communication celebrations, an event dedicated to the joy of being together, community and communication as an essential phenomenon for creating and maintaining bonds in society. On 6 June 2024, from 10.00 a.m., high school students in Oltenia are invited to Open Doors Day at UMF Craiova. The Faculty of Medicine, the Faculty of Dentistry, the Faculty of Pharmacy and the Faculty of Nursing will present their educational offer for the academic year 2024-2025. On this occasion, high school students will participate in a series of workshops organised by teachers of the four faculties: "First Aid", "Practical Applications to Cell Biology and Genetics", "Blood group determination", "Classical impression for dental work", "Digital dentistry - scanner impression", "Building dental work with high-performance software", "Dental extraction, the first step towards dental surgery", "Microscopic analysis of plant cell and some cell inclusions", "New trends in facial and body aesthetics", "Shining science: From hydrocarbons to lip gloss", "Knowledge of medicinal plants", "Body analysis, a new dimension of cardiometabolic risk", "Being a nurse - a successful vocation", "Physiotherapist, an integral part of the medical rehabilitation team", "Superior imaging techniques". On 7 June, from 10.00 am, the UMF Craiova academic community will gather in the Aula Magna, as every year, for retrospective and prospective debates. The University of Medicine and Pharmacy is a community of over 4000 students, 500 teaching staff, supported by over 300 teaching posts. With a vigorous evolution, UMF Craiova is today a modern university, fully prepared for the opportunities of the coming years. Happy birthday, UMF Craiova! Vivat! Crescat! Floreat!

"Doctor Honoris Causa for the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine"

On 24 May 2024, the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, Prof. PhD Marius Eugen Ciurea, received the title of Doctor Honoris Causa of the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki (Greece). Founded in 1925, the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki is the largest university in Greece, with 10 faculties consisting of 40 schools and a single faculty-school, with almost 90,000 students and over 1,600 teaching staff.
