Description

The subject of Genetics was introduced into the curriculum in 2003 as Medical Genetics ( since 2019, called Genetics), until then it was integrated into the subject of Biology, which later became the subject of Genetic Biology.
For the first class of students, the course was taught by Associate Professor PhD Ovidiu Chita and the practical work was carried out by Assistant Professor PhD Ion Rogoz. During 1974-2013, the discipline was successively directed by the Head of Works Maurice Nachtigal, Prof. PhD Ovidiu Chita, Prof. PhD Ion Rogoz and Prof. PhD Elena Buteică.
Since 2013 until now, the activity of the Genetics discipline has been coordinated by Prof. PhD Florin Burada. Initially, the analytical syllabus covered fundamental principles of general biology, elements of Mendelian genetics, bacterial genetics and human genetics. Currently, alongside the mechanisms and principles of fundamental genetics (structure and cellular organization of genetic material, structure and function of genes, transmission of genetic information, genetic variability, etc.), an important part is played by topics related to the diagnosis, management and prophylaxis of genetic diseases, as well as the practical applications of medical genetics (genetic diagnosis based on cytogenetic and molecular genetic techniques, prenatal diagnosis, genetic approaches in the treatment of human diseases, genetic counselling).
In the discipline of Medical Genetics there were a number of teachers who are no longer active: Prof. PhD Ovidiu Chita, Head of Works PhD Maurice Nachtigal, Prof. PhD Ion Rogoz, Prof. PhD Elena Buteică, Prof. PhD Zorica-Ileana Hertzog and for short periods of time: Assistant Professor Daniela Tudor, Assistant Professor Adela Tăblică and Assistant Professor Vlad Mixich.
