Master in Pharmacology and Toxicology

Master in Pharmacology and Toxicology

Master program mission

The mission and objectives of the master's degree programs are in line with the mission of the Faculty of Pharmacy of UMFCV and with the educational requirements identified on the labor market.

Teaching mission

The knowledge and skills that Master's graduates of Pharmacology and toxicology will accumulate, will strengthen their competence in dealing with doctors to assess health status and, above all, will provide a solid basis for identifying possible prescribing errors due to drug interactions, prevention and effective management of possible drug intoxication. In the field of prophylaxis, they will be able to correctly assess the risk of illness or appreciate the context of individual and collective illness and to select and apply the best methods of health assessment and prophylaxis. Health issues can be addressed in the context of the specific characteristics of the community, in direct relation to the specific social, economic and cultural conditions of the community.

The mission and objectives of the Master's program express the essential elements specific to the programs within it. The master's degree programs in Pharmacy developed at the Faculty of Pharmacy UMFCV have the following attributes:

Master's degree program in Pharmacology and Toxicology:

▪ Master's field: Pharmacy

▪ Form of education: full-time

▪ Duration of studies: 1 year

▪ Diploma awarded: Specialist in Pharmacotoxicology, Master.

The initiative to organize the master program "Pharmacology and Toxicology" (FT) was based on several motivational aspects:

▪ the professional activity of pharmacists and doctors requires constant updating of fundamental and specialized knowledge;

▪ there is an acute need for pharmacology and toxicology specialists in the interdisciplinary research teams at UMFCVF, linked to national programs, without whom the work cannot be carried out at modern standards;

▪ preparing graduates of faculties of pharmacy and medicine for doctoral studies, in accordance with the rules and principles of European higher education;

▪ the professions of pharmacologist and toxicologist are recognized in the European Union and in other developed countries, the Master's programme could increase the chances of Romanian pharmacist and medical graduates being able to find a job in the European Union;

▪ Interdisciplinary research in the field of Safety Science has gained particular momentum in the European Union, USA, Canada, Australia, Japan, etc., while in Eastern European countries, at the time of the program's inception, this field was neglected, which is why there was a need for highly trained specialists;

▪ the need to train specialists in the field of Safety Science (pharmacology, clinical and preclinical toxicology, genomics, physiology, pathophysiology, physico-chemistry, cell biology, biochemistry, animal physiology, etc.), in line with the directions specified in Chapter V, "Education and Training" (E&T), of the Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI): Creating Biomedical R&D Leadership for Europe to Benefit Patients and Society (EU Strategic Research Agendas);

Pharmaceutical and medical research in Romania is mainly based on clinical trials and less on investment in the creation of new drugs, which calls for specialists with interdisciplinary training in Pharmacology and Toxicology.
