The University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova is a public, accredited higher education institution, established pursuant to Law No. 119 of 05.06.1998.
According to its Charter, scientific research is one of the fundamental missions of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova.
Within the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova, scientific research–development–innovation activities, as well as design, consultancy, and expertise activities, are carried out in accordance with the provisions of the following legal and strategic documents: Law No. 199/2023 on higher education; Government Ordinance No. 57/2002, as amended, approved by Law No. 324/2003 on scientific research and technological development; Law No. 183/2024 on the status of research, development, and innovation personnel; the Human Resources Strategy for Researchers (HRS4R); Government Decision No. 134/2011; the National Strategy for Research, Innovation and Smart Specialisation 2022–2027, approved by Government Decision No. 933/2022; Law No. 206/2004 on good conduct in research; Law No. 25/2023; the Charter of the University of Medicine and Pharmacy of Craiova; and the Strategic Plan of UMF Craiova.

to contribute, through the research activities of members of the academic community, to the enrichment of the universal cultural heritage and bio-humanistic knowledge;

to actively enhance the level of knowledge in the medical and pharmaceutical fields, as well as in educational processes and techniques in the field of health;

to develop reference research activities in the aforementioned fields, compatible and comparable with national and international scientific research programmes;

to promote quality and excellence in research, creativity, interdisciplinarity, competitiveness, cooperation, efficient management, and ethical and deontological principles in all research activities and at all levels;

to disseminate and capitalize on the results of scientific research;

to promote inventive and innovative activities;

to stimulate extrabudgetary funding of scientific research, design, expertise, and consultancy activities through contracts concluded with economic operators, other institutions, and organizations;

to facilitate the acquisition of scientific research skills by students through their material and spiritual motivation;

to develop and modernize its research, assistance, and microproduction units, as well as its teaching and experimental facilities;

to ensure the efficient use of the material resources of UMF Craiova;

to train young researchers who are competitive at national and international levels;

to increase the national and international visibility and prestige of medical education and research in Craiova;

to promote the establishment of national and international partnerships with institutions of similar profile, with the aim of increasing the efficiency of research processes.
