History of the discipline
In 1966 the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Service was established, headed by Dr. Iustin Mihăescu, which functioned as a department within the General Surgery Service of Craiova County Hospital until 1970.
In 1970, the Plastic and Maxillofacial Surgery Department was established within the County Hospital, also headed by Dr. Iustin Mihăescu, and functioned under this form and under this leadership until 1991.
Since 1975 the section has functioned as a training base for students at the Faculty of General Medicine Craiova, the discipline of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery being introduced from that date in the analytical program of the faculty.
1991 saw the separation of the plastic and maxillofacial surgery services and the establishment of the Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery Clinic, headed since that year by Prof. PhD Mihai Surpățeanu.
